With text adapted from scripture and music to bring the text to life, we can hear the gentle, yet insistent pleading of the Savior to “come” and find rest in Him. Artfully set for SSAA choir with piano, this rich and warm accompaniment is further enhanced with a beautiful solo cello line. The cello part is included in the octavo.
(This work represents Dan’s third time to set this text: his first setting was the first piece he ever submitted to Beckenhorst Press for publication consideration; it was (rightly) rejected and never published. His second setting is the well-known tenor solo near the end of Requiem for the Living. This setting, with other Scripture interwoven, is a church anthem-style setting, which brings things “full-circle” back to where he began submitting pieces to Beckenhorst.)
TEXT:
Come to Me, all you who labor
Come to Me, and I will give you rest;
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened
And you will find rest for your souls. (Matt 11:28-29)
Come, my child, (2 Cor 6:18)
Learn my heart:
For I am gentle and lowly. (Matt 11:29)
See how great
my love for you
that I have called you my child. (I John 3:1)
